Activating Co-Creative Emergence:
The Dance That is Vertical Facilitation
with Michael Hamman and Friends
Thursday, October 10 2024 9-10:15am US ET / 15-16:15pm CET
Consider that when we are coaching others, the issues, questions, and challenges that present themselves belong as much to us as to them.
In the world of coaching, the term “You spot it, you got it” pertains to this phenomenon.
The ‘spot it’ part happens when something arises in the conversation that somehow triggers me—whether in a small or big way—or some way ‘grabs’ my attention. I’m suddenly there with this person in a way that is much closer, more personal. I find myself invested in the conversation, drawn in.
In such moments, I sometimes feel as though I’m not sure where the conversation should or could go. I am face-to-face with the unknown that is given by the moment. I’m feeling a bit anxious, unsure.
That’s the ‘spot it’ part—I’ve ‘spotted’ something because it is also happening in me.
The ‘got it’ part comes in when I can recognize what in me is being triggered or otherwise challenged, and assume responsibility and ownership for that. From the place of that recognition (and ownership), I facilitate the working through of it with the other person, by working through it for myself.
In this webinar, we will explore the subtle forms of transference that can happen the coaching conversation, or any other kinds of conversation dedicated to creating new openings for ourselves and others. Along the way we will tease out one possible intriguing implication: The possibility that coaching is a phenomenon by which a collective field (you could call it collective consciousness) gets activated in a particular way.
Finally, we will explore a manner of dialogical engagement that seeks to deliberately activate the co-creative field in which the greater, more whole, my systemic, intelligence of the collective can emerge and awaken.
What do we mean by ‘co-creative field’? In what ways is it meaningful? How might we sense and tap into and awaken its essential resourcefulness and creativity? These are among the questions we will explore in our time together.
